A good place to begin.
Learn Amdo Tibetan brings reading, listening and recall together. Start small; let a repeatable routine do the work.
- Open Study.Begin with the Preface and Introduction, then explore the phonetics units and Lesson 1. The starter collection is included in the app, so you can begin reading offline.
- Listen before you memorise.Play a recording, follow the English and Tibetan text, and repeat aloud. Replay a phrase until you can hear its shape and rhythm.
- Practise the same material.Open the lesson’s flashcards and try a short Cram session. Tap a card to reveal its answer before rating your recall.
- Come back tomorrow.Use SRS for scheduled review, then return to the lesson for context. A few focused minutes are easier to sustain than one long session.
Read for understanding.
Open a lesson from Study. Its sections bring the material into smaller, purposeful steps.
| Section | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Introduction | Read the lesson’s opening context before moving into practice. |
| Pronunciation | Listen closely to the sounds and repeat the examples. |
| Spelling Practice / Drills | Work through the spelling and drill entries slowly; use the recordings when available. |
| New Words | Build vocabulary by pairing Tibetan, English and audio. |
| Dialogue | Read and listen to phrases in context, then practise saying them aloud. |
| Exercises | Complete the work, then tap the exercise’s circle to record your progress. These are completion checkmarks, not automatic grading. |
| Notes | Read the lesson notes and use My Notes for your own observations. |
Tabs: one section at a time
Keep a smaller amount of material on screen. Switch between the enabled lesson sections as you work.Reader Style: one continuous page
Scroll through the enabled sections in order. Section headings stay pinned while you read that part of the lesson.Your notes belong with the lesson.
In Notes → My Notes, add a note or tap an existing note card to edit it. The editor lets you save, cancel or delete the note. Use this space for pronunciation reminders, questions to ask a teacher, or examples you want to revisit.Hear it. Repeat it. Keep it offline.
Use individual recordings for close listening, or play a lesson section to follow several entries in sequence.
Play a single entry or a whole section.
Tap an entry’s play control to hear its recording. Where a section-play button is shown, use it to play the section’s available entries. Reference supports play, pause and resume; flashcards also provide an audio button.Download before you go offline.
- Open the download selector.Review the available lessons and the audio download counts. Already downloaded material is identified in the list.
- Choose your lessons.Select the lessons you need, or use Select All. A smaller selection is useful when you are following only a few lessons at a time.
- Tap Download and allow it to finish.Keep a working internet connection while the download runs. Confirm the downloaded status before relying on recordings offline.
Choose how you want to remember.
The same material can serve three different purposes. Pick a mode in the flashcard screen or under Admin → Flashcards Mode.
Cram
Rate recall with thumbs up or down. A card leaves the active deck after enough thumbs-up ratings.SRS
Rate cards Again, Hard or Good. The app schedules their next review dates.Review
Reveal answers and use Prev / Next. Track views without Cram ratings or an SRS schedule.Cram: build confidence in a smaller set.
Try to recall the answer, tap the card to reveal it, and rate yourself. Thumbs down records that you need more practice and moves to the next card. Thumbs up records a successful recall. The Learned Cram Value in Admin sets how many thumbs-up ratings are needed: 1, 2 or 3, with 2 as the default. Thumbs-down ratings do not count toward that target. Once the target is reached, the card leaves that active Cram deck.SRS: review when a card comes due.
Reveal the answer before choosing a rating. Rate your recall honestly rather than choosing the button you wish were true.SRS means spaced repetition: each card has its own next review date. The app uses an SM-2-style calculation based on your rating, the previous interval, the number of consecutive successful reviews and an ease factor—a multiplier that controls how quickly the intervals grow.
How your next review is calculated
- Again: the card is scheduled for tomorrow, and its consecutive successful-review count returns to zero. It leaves today’s queue; it does not repeat a few minutes later.
- Hard or Good: both count as successful recall. The first success schedules the card for 1 day later; the second consecutive success schedules it for 6 days later.
- Further successes: the next interval is the previous interval multiplied by the card’s current ease factor, rounded to the nearest whole day. The minimum interval is 1 day.
Why Hard and Good lead to different schedules
A new card starts with an ease factor of 2.5. Good keeps it unchanged; Hard reduces it by 0.14; Again reduces it by 0.54. The factor never falls below 1.3. The interval for a successful review uses the factor from before that rating; the adjusted factor is saved for future calculations. This means Hard and Good can initially show the same interval, while repeated Hard ratings slow later growth.
Scheduling uses calendar dates on your device, not an exact hour or minute. New cards and cards due today or earlier appear in the queue. If you miss a day, overdue cards remain available; a late review calculates the next date from the day you return. A deck with no cards due is a reason to return later, not a reason to erase your schedule. Use Cram or Review if you want extra practice between scheduled reviews.
Review: take the pressure off.
Tap to reveal the answer, then browse with Prev and Next. Each time the front of a card appears, its view count increases. Review counts exposure; it does not mark a card learned or change its SRS rating.Make the deck fit the task.
You can practise one lesson in context or combine material across lessons.
Lesson flashcards
Open a lesson in Study, then use its flashcards button. This keeps the session focused on the lesson you are reading. All Flashcards
Use the main Flashcards area to work across your chosen lessons. Restrict the lesson list in Admin when you want a smaller deck.Set your filters.
- Lesson Flashcards Sections / Select Sections: choose the kinds of entries to practise. Card sections include Introduction, Pronunciation, Spelling / Drills, New Words and Dialogue.
- All Flashcards Lessons / Select Lessons: choose which installed lessons feed your combined deck.
- Tibetan First: choose which language you see before revealing the other side.
- Play Audios Automatically: enable automatic card audio when you want listening to accompany your practice.
- Font sizes: adjust the Tibetan and English flashcard sizes independently.
A simple 15-minute routine
A suggested routine, not an app timer or a requirement.- 5 minutes: read one short lesson section and repeat its audio.
- 5 minutes: practise the matching lesson cards in Cram.
- 5 minutes: work through due SRS cards or browse in Review.
Find the phrase. Hear it again.
Reference searches the entries currently available on your device. It is a practical companion to the lessons.
- Open Reference.Use the bottom navigation to open the searchable entry list.
- Type English or Tibetan.Enter a word or a short part of a phrase. Matching text is highlighted in the results.
- Read the entry in context.Review both language lines and the lesson / section information shown with the result.
- Listen without leaving the result.Tap play; use pause and resume when you need time to repeat a phrase.
Read the numbers with confidence.
Progress tells you what you have done. It is useful feedback, rather than a formal language-level assessment.
| Measure | What it means |
|---|---|
| Exercises | The share of exercise completion circles you have checked. Complete the exercise before recording it. |
| Cram | The share of relevant cards that have reached the Learned Cram Value. Changing that threshold can change the percentage. |
| SRS | Coverage of cards with SRS review history. This is not a promise that every card is permanently mastered or currently up to date. |
| Streak | Consecutive days of app use. It encourages returning regularly; it is not a count of study hours. |
| Review views | How often card fronts have appeared in Review. Use the report to see exposure rather than a correctness score. |
A reading space that feels right.
Use Admin to tune the lesson view and the practice experience independently.
Lesson display
Choose Tibetan First, switch between Reader Style and tabs, and select or reorder the visible lesson sections. Keep the sections you use frequently near the beginning.Text appearance
Adjust English and Tibetan text colours and sizes. Flashcards have their own Tibetan and English size multipliers, so a comfortable lesson size does not have to be your card size.Help on demand
Use View Tutorial from Home to revisit the introductory walkthrough. Contextual walkthroughs also explain the controls in Study, lessons, flashcards and Admin.Go beyond the starter lessons.
PRO access unlocks the complete 40-lesson collection. Access and downloading are two separate steps.
- Open Admin → PRO.Use the available purchase option, Restore Purchases, or an access code supplied to you for testing or review.
- Check your access status. The PRO area displays the current access state. A temporary test code is time-limited; purchasing PRO is the permanent-access route shown by the app.
- Download All 40 Lessons. With access active, choose Download All 40 Lessons and wait for installation to finish.
- Add the recordings you need.Use Download Audio Files separately so those lessons are ready for offline listening.
Keep the learning material current.
Lesson corrections and recording updates can arrive separately from an app-store update.
Update Content
Installs available changes to the lesson package appropriate to your installed collection: starter content or the full lesson collection.Update Audio Files
Applies available recording updates. Use the regular audio download selector when you need to download recordings for additional lessons.Your device holds your learning state.
Lessons, downloaded audio, notes, preferences and practice history are stored locally. Do not assume that they are automatically backed up to another device. Restoring a purchase restores access; it is not the same as restoring your study history.A little help, when you need it.
Start with the smallest fix: check a setting, a filter or a download before clearing your learning history.
